Some related results in the book "The Present Situation Investigation of and the Research into Chinese Mass Sports" show that "the first four sports which urban and rural residents like in 2000 are long walking or running, badminton, table tennis, and three balls", and "badminton-players account for 39.9% and 19.2% in the person-times of athletics participants and urban population respectively." However, from 1994 to 2005, the number of papers in core periodicals and research theses on badminton projects is far smaller than other projects (such as basketball, volleyball etc.), and the research into the status quo and development on badminton sports in the West is done not from the macro-perspective. Therefore, using literature consultation, questionnaire method, mathematical statistics method, clustering analysis, interview method , on-the-spot investigation, individual cases analysis, logic analysis and so on, the dissertation does some researches into the status quo of badminton sports in the capital cities of the west provinces. The findings indicate that:1. The main body of in-door players is in-service employees mostly with junior college or undergraduate education. For the employees with their monthly income reaching their cities' mean wage levels of the year 2006, the wealth is not the main restricting factor of their engagement in badminton sports or the bottleneck of their exercising times. Badminton sports have strong expanding and driving force. 2. The percentage of badminton players in the population of the communities in the west provinces' capitals is smaller than national average level. The lack of social P.E. instructors is still a serious problem. In addition, the badminton field and equipment for morning and evening exercise are obviously insufficient.3. From 1992 to 2006, for the badminton clubs' establishment, the number and the year are positive correlation. Between 2004 and 2006, the numbers of the temporary and official members in every club increased many times and the rate of the former is higher. The charge standards for the badminton halls between the capitals of the west provinces are not of remarkable difference.4. The university badminton associations are found most in 2005 and second in 2006 in the capitals of the west provinces. The university badminton associations in the cities of Nanning and Guiyang are found earlier than other cities. The university students' interest in badminton sports is increasing continuously in the capitals of the west provinces and their participation is more and more active. There is no remarkable difference for the charge of each piece of field between university badminton halls in the capitals of the west province.5. The disparity in badminton reserve talents between the West and the East is further enlarged, and the pattern of "East Strong but West weak" has strengthened instead of being broken. The East and the South are still the badminton center in competitive strength while the West is very weak. However, man's events begin recovering and the disparity in badminton mixed doubles between the East and the South is decreasing. Finally, the dissertation puts forward some proposals for solving the problems in the development of badminton sports in the capitals of the west provinces, which are expected to be helpful and positive.
