Under New Curriculum Junior Middle School Mathematics Textbook Exercise Comparative Research

This research carries on the comparison to the exercise from exercise quantity, the type, the selection and the difficulty aspects. The exercise is important component in the middle school mathematics textbook. Is the exercise provides good or bad, immediately influences to the study quality of students. Therefore, the research to the textbook exercise is a much valuable work. About exercise research, previous researches have often focused on detailed analysis of a single exercise, or changing the known and/or unknown variables, or finding multiple solutions to the same problem, or in relation to actual examinations, but has neglected the exercise research. in the textbook. This article chooses the People's Education textbook and the Beijing Normal University textbook (hereafter refers to as "the People's Education version", "the Beijing Normal University version"), uses methods such as the quantification analysis and the nature analysis to determine the similarities and the differences in quantities, types and source materials presented and difficulties of the exercises about the two sets of textbooks in "the space and the graph" , makes every effort in the whole "the space and the graph" carry on the quantification attribute and the nature description comparison to the two sets of textbooks.After comparing the geometry exercises in "the space and the graph" from the two sets of textbooks, we reached the following conclusion:(1) In quantities of the exercises ,the Beijing Normal University version contains too many geometry exercises(1513), whereas the People's Education version contains too few geometry exercises(1147). In the chapter on Pythagorean theorem, the People's Education version uses too many exercises.(2)In types of the exercises ,comparison on types of exercises presented in both sets of textbooks yielded the following observations: traditional topics such as computational proof still dominates the textbooks; the objectivity topic appears very suddenly; exercises with diagrams are very popular; there are many questions that are open-ended and designed the exercise students' analytical skills.(3)In source materials of the exercises, geometry exercises presented in Beijing Normal University version focuses on real life application that students can relate to.(4)In difficulties of the exercises, geometry exercises in the People's Education version are generally more difficult than those found in Beijing Normal University version in terms of computation, inference and knowledge content. In general, the difficulty levels of exercises found in the People's Education version and the Beijing Normal University version are quite balanced between the five factors.This research possibly provides certain reference to the junior middle school mathematics textbook " the space and the graph" study domain in the exercise design and in the junior middle school teacher's exercise teaching. At present, domestic has not conducted such research quite to the exercise, although this research has made some preliminary explorations, but it is only the one-sided view. This research's insufficiency lies in the research to be not very thorough, comprehensively, waits for further unearthing...
