Presently, autonomous learning is still a problem both pedagogy and psychology. The traditional Chinese teaching system has made learners less independent and autonomous in English learning. According to the General High Middle School English Course Criteria (Trial Edition),"optimize learning method, improve the ability of autonomous learning",aims at solving general problems of dependence, less initiative, and lack of autonomous learning consciousness and ability. From the angle of students should learn how to learn and should acquire the ability of autonomous learning, this thesis makes an investigation on factors affecting learner Autonomy with reference to high school students.This thesis makes an exposition of the importance and the meanings of autonomous learning and introduces the concepts,connotation,characteristics,strategies of learner autonomy ,state of the theoretical basis of autonomous learning, followed by internal factors and external factors of affecting autonomous learning. Connected with New Curriculum Standard for English Teaching in China , and aims at solving general problems of dependence, less initiative, and lack of autonomous learning consciousness and ability. From the perspectives of research and investigation. Through a questionnaire,interview,English test paper, this thesis analyzes the factors influencing autonomous learning and gets the results. The author has found out that motivation,learning goal,learning method and learning strategies are the key factors that affect learner autonomy; Psychological factors also affect autonomous learning; Controlling learning process and evaluating learning outcome are the basic techniques in autonomous learning.Making suggestions of foster of learner autonomy to high school students.
