This dissertation is a study on autonomous learning strategies for middle school students. One of the important goals in English language teaching is to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability. There are many factors associated with autonomy learning ability. English learning strategies are important in improving the autonomous learning ability of junior school students. Those students who have high autonomous learning ability and language learning can use English learning strategies efficiently. This dissertation firstly introduces the background of this topic in China, the significances of this study, research methods and the researches about cultivating the autonomous learning ability for junior school students at home and aboard. Then discusses the connotations of autonomy learning and English learning strategies, and then explains the relationship between them. And then point out the problems in autonomy learning for junior school students.In order to give some advice to those teachers who facing the problems in improving students’ autonomy learning ability and language learning strategies using ability. This dissertation discusses some cases by using cognitive strategies, meta-cognitive strategies, affective strategies and social strategies to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability.
