As the lacking of shame is becoming a social problem, the forming background of the culture of shame, the crucial functions, internal mechanism, principles and methods of cultivation of shame have been researched from historical and psychological angles in this thesis.The culture of shame is connected closely with the geographic conditions and the mode of economy of our country, which is unique in the world. The shame is the basis of the ideology of pre-Qin Confucius. To attach great importance to the shame had tremendous effect on the moral culture in feudal socienty, which still has positive significance nowadays.The determinate value has been permeated in consciousness by the exterior standards of moral and the norms of the actions according to the social evaluation. The value changes to the intent of moral, finally internalize the shame. On the contrary, shame becomes the internal psychological mechanism, which promoting individual strengthening moral cultivation.As the internal restricting mechanism, shame is the assurance for cultivating individual's moral culture and the nice ethos. Therefore, to cultivate the shame can be seen as the matter of primary importance in moral education and social education.In the cultivation of shame, the first step is to form psychological and feeling construction of shame, which transforming the internal restricting mechanism of moral by the education of cognition with the developing of consciousness. It's the principle of proceeding step by step. Educating with cognition and feeling is the second principle. Various styles will be taken in different persons, so the leading principle is very important. The family education should be regarded during the cultivation of shame, and the diverse way will be held under the physical and mental development and characteristics of children.
