Extra-curricular reading has long been one of the hot subjects of which many researchers would like to make a study. It is of great practical significance to research on how junior middle-school students do their extra-curricular reading .With the tremendous development of our times and steady progress in the reforms of the new curriculum ,what kind of problems exist in extra-curricular reading of junior middle-school students? How should these problems be resolved? Based on this background, this thesis is aimed at researching into the problems and resolution of extra-curricular reading of junior middle-school students. I hope this thesis will provide you with some beneficial subject-matter in order to improve the current situation in the extra-curricular reading and in order to help teachers instruct their students effectively in this aspect.The introduction of this thesis covers the background of this research, the significance ,the methods and the problems which are hoped to be resolved. Chapter One expounds the significance of the extra-curricular reading of junior middle-school students. It also explores the current research situation in this field at home and abroad. They offer a vast background to this research. Chapter Two makes a survey on the present ways of extra-curricular reading by making questionaires so as to find out the existing problems in this regard, and it also probe into the profound causes of these problems. Chapter Three discusses the new requirements for the extra-curricular reading which are put forward by the New Curriculum, and it also discusses the various principles of instruction in this aspect. Chapter Four explores how to instruct students to do extra-curricular reading. It also covers the instruction tactics and evaluation methods of extra-curricular reading on the background of carrying out the New Curriculum. Chapter Five put forward some practical advice on improving extra-curricular reading, with the help of local government, schools, teachers and parents.All in all, the author of this thesis thinks that only when school education, family education and society education join hands and work like a single organization, can the extra-curricular reading be performed properly and genuinely so as to entirely enhance the Chinese quality of students.
