Under the background of the new curricular reform, the new curricular advocates students to participate,explore and practice in the class actively and willingly, requires to give prominence to the students and to respect the students'individual differences. The goal of learning tasks and the sense of success should be achieved in the guidance of teachers in the way of perception, experience, practice, participation and cooperation. By adjusting the emotion and strategies in the learning process, the students will form positive learning attitudes and promote their actual language use capabilities. In order to the achieve curriculum reform goals, not only do we need to optimize the classroom teaching and to improve the teaching efficiency, but also we need to carry out the second-class English practice. The reasons are as follow: 1) to expand the students'knowledge scope, stimulate intellectual curiosity of students; 2) to improve students'ability to organize and cooperate;3) to develop their personality, hobbies ;4) to enrich the spiritual life of students, cultivate their taste. These functions of the extra-curricular are unanimously approved by the scholars currently.Based on the theory of multiple-intelligence and the students-centeredness of the whole language theory, the author made a research into the extra-curricular English practice at middle schools in Jinan. The purpose of the research is to find out the current status of the extra-curricular English practice in middle schools and the existing problems. By analyzing and discussing the researching results, the author put forward the practical solutions and recommendations, hoping that they can be helpful to the development of the English practice of the extra-curricular activities in middle schools and to achieve more effective effectsThe study has been done mainly through investigation based on the questionnaire. The author worked out the questionnaire of the extra-curricular English practice and investigated 360 students from four selected middle schools in Jinan. The contents of the survey include: 1) the contents of the extra-curricula English practice; 2) the learning style of the students in the extra-curricular English practice;3) the interest and tendency of the students in the extra-curricular English practice ;4) the evaluation of the extra-curricular English practice of made by the students and the learning effectiveness. After the survey, based on the questions reflected from the investigation, an interview was made to make up for the deficiency of the questionnaire. The results and the problems reflected from the survey were analyzed item by item. At the end of the thesis, the author proposed the reasonable countermeasures and suggestions for the existed problems in the process of carrying out the extra-curricular English practice.The thesis falls into five chapters: Chapter one is the literature review which briefly introduced the history and the current status of the extra-curricular at home and the English practice of the extra-curricular at home. Chapter two briefly introduced the theory basis, which includes the constructivism, the view to the students and teachers in the whole language theory, the students-centrism of the multiple-intellectual theory and the multiple changes of the teacher's role under the background of the new reformation of the curricular. Chapter three introduced the participators and the process of the survey, and the researching tool in detail. The analysis and discussion was made in detail based on the results of the survey from the following aspects: the contents, style and environment of extra-curricular English practice, the students'learning style and the evaluation of the extra-curricular English practice made by students. Chapter four is the pedagogy suggestions which puts forward the following measures to solve the problems existed in the extra-curricular English practice. The measures are as follow:to enhance the organization and guidance of the extra-curricular English practice, to adjust and expand English practice contents, to handle the relationship between the first classroom and the extra-curricular English practice properly, to give play to the effects of pluralism of the teachers'role, etc. The last part is the conclusion which gives a summary of the whole thesis,points out the limitations of the thesis,and recommends the further study.
