With competition becoming increasingly fierce, the survival and development of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in competitive environment was referred to the issue of an unprecedented height. Competition of universities is not only domestic universities, but even also the competitiveness of international universities. A country's international competitiveness of universities is closely related to the competitiveness of the entire country. No matter what the competition is, the major force of the competition is high-quality teaching force. University doesn't consist of buildings, but of masters. Just as the soul of the ivory tower, in cultivating talent, in the preservation and innovation of profound knowledge, in the enhancement of university core competitiveness, faculty is a decisive force. Practice has proven that the core competitiveness of faculty reflected the true level of the core competitiveness in university, and that it reflected the status of China's HEIs in the international education sector, as well as the degree of influence of China's faculty in the international academic community. The ultimate stress of faculty' core competitiveness is the innovation capability of a nation's higher education, and the best interests of a country. Therefore, the research on how should current Chinese universities do to improve the core competitiveness of faculty is of social value, economic value and practical significance.According to the analysis of the actuality of the core competitiveness of Chinese faculty, and through the international comparison, this paper find out the competitive advantages and disadvantages of China in faculty' core competitiveness, ascertain the core elements that affect the core competitiveness of faculty, analyze the fundamental reason of the weakness of faculty' core competitiveness, and put forward the countermeasures, in order to improve and develop the core competitiveness of faculty. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is about the description of the study's purpose, significance, literature review, research ideas and methods. The second part consists of the analysis of the concept and content of faculty' core competitiveness and the discussion of the elements and characteristics of faculty core competitiveness. The third part refers to the analysis of actuality of Chinese faculty' core competitiveness and identifies gaps through international comparison. The fourth part aims at analyzing the impact elements of Chinese faculty' core competitiveness and getting the problem. The fifth part is to discuss the countermeasures to improve the Chinese faculty' core competitiveness.This paper, proceeding from the definition and characteristics of faculty' core competitiveness, following the logic thinking of Theoretical Research - Empirical Analysis - Countermeasures, synthetically using the combining methods of theoretical analysis and empirical analysis, of systems analysis and the typical analysis, and of problem research and countermeasure research, through the international comparison of faculty' core competitiveness, analyzes deeply the basic problems and the deep reason of impacting faculty' core competitiveness, and explores the issues on how to improve faculty' core competitiveness. This paper aims at providing reference and recommendations on improving the core competitiveness of Chinese faculty.
