Those EFL teachers that have been involved in the New Curriculum Reform of high schools have been exposed to many completely-new theories, concepts and teaching methods. Actually, there are so many of them that many of the EFL teachers are at a loss in their daily teaching. This leads them just to imitate others' methods or follow those new ones, making their English teaching aimless. This essay recalls theories of linguistics, psychology, second language acquisition, and foreign language teaching methods, their influence on EFL teaching and the best teaching forms they have advocated. The author designed a questionnaire based on this after the interview with some students to discover the most frequently used teaching forms in high schools. Another questionnaire was then designed to discover which teaching forms are more effective in terms of improving some particular language ability in the EFL teachers' opinions and the students' as well. Having analysed the data, the author, in the paper, makes his suggestions and proposes the reasons for his suggestions. He then arrives at the conclusions that any teaching theory or their promoted teaching form has its limitation; that there is always something valuable in one or the other teaching form which may be good for one or the other group of the teachers or students at one or the other stage of teaching and that affective factors may, to a large extent, determine the effectiveness of a particular teaching form; and if EFL teachers are dogmatic about one theory or a particular teaching form, there won't be long-term effectiveness.
