As part and parcel of the talent bank in China, the polytechnic students have become the main concern of the college presidents and even the national leaders, for their moral quality is a major issue that has a direct bearing on their healthy growth and the building of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Therefore, this paper, based on the investigation of the students of the College of Technology Supervision, Xihua University as a case, tries to explore some methods of improving moral education in polytechnic/ professional colleges.Through questionnaires, forums and interviews, the author of this paper came to find that the situation of the students in this college is like this: most of them have ardent love for the motherland and brim with confidence for the future of the country. And many of them are provided with correct worldview and values. On the other hand, there also exist such problems among these students as weak faith in revolutionary ideals, less responsibility, lack of honesty and disunity of knowing and doing; the lack of self-confidence from the mental overpressure, as well as the poor manners, and so on. The roots and causes in these problems may be various, however, in my opinion, one of the major reasons, from the perspective of the college educationists, lies in the existing improper methods of moral education. For instance, too much application of Instillation Method versus too little practice; more emphasis on forms but less stress on the effects, the improper utilization of infused instruction method and outdated moral education methods, etc.In dealing with these problems, the author of this paper reexamines the moral education methods in polytechnic colleges based on his own working practice as a leader in charge of moral education in a college, as well as a vast investigation among the colleges leaders, teachers and students and a literature review of the research work in moral education both at home and abroad. The major concerns of this paper are as follows: 1) Instillation Method in Moral Education, which focuses on the improvement of such methods as narrative, case method of instruction, direct instillation; 2) Practice, a detailed discussion of how to guide the students to get to know the reality, to become aware of the life and to refine their moral character. 3) the infused instruction, a discussion of how to make use of environment, courses and mass media to exert a subtle influence on students. 4) Role playing method; 5) Two-way Interactive Methods; 6) Counseling model on mental health; and 7) Interest accommodating method. The author holds that according to the his own practice in applying these methods, they can be of great help in the moral education as long as we try hard to integrate theory into practice and pay high attention to the maneuverability of these methods. As a moral educator, the author hopes to share with and provide a reference for colleagues in the polytechnic and professional colleges / institutions the moral methods practiced and studied by the author himself. The author also hopes that this paper will draw more people's attention to the study of moral education methods, and attract more people to help improve the cultivation of professionals with high overall qualities.
