| With the arrival of the information age, the Internet, with its plentiful resources, various ways of presentation and flexible function of interaction, has been imposing a far greater effect on our life and education than any other traditional media vehicle. It is a new challenge for educationists in China to decide on whether we should avoid reoccurrence of the Internet in our teaching or we should take advantage of this new vehicle and guide students to make use of it to facilitate their learning. While we are still in debate on the advantages and disadvantages that the Internet may bring to our education, western countries have stepped further in practicing web-based teaching in a variety of ways. Research shows that students in many western countries are able to do well in their study with the assistance of the Internet .So it is high time for teachers in China to stop debate and think over practical ways to integrate this new media vehicle with our education.English is a basic subject in middle school in China; one of its pedagogical aims is to develop the learners' comprehensive ability to use the language, that is, to understand and to produce. Reading plays a very important role in reaching that aim. As the information age is characterized by the explosion of knowledge and information, which pushes human being into a brand new world that they have never encountered before, the teaching of English reading inevitably ought to bear new meaning so as to adapt itself to this changing world. Fortunately, the development in technology allows us to practise new methods in our teaching of reading. Without any doubt, the great potential of the Internet in expanding the students' knowledge and creating an authentic learning environment is sure to benefit both English teachers and learners, making reading a new concept in both pedagogical field and everyday life. This thesis, based on Constructivism Learning Theory and the basic tenets embodied in the new curriculum reform, aims to make some research into English reading teaching in the context of the Internet.
