In the early 1970s, little progress was made in the study of foreign language teaching approaches while cognitive psychology developed rapidly. This resulted in the switch of the emphasis from"how to teach"to"how to learn", and contributed to the initial research of language strategies. Listening strategy is one of the most important factors which affect the process of listening comprehension. Based on the theoretical model for cognitive psychology learning strategies, the present thesis reports the effect of listening strategies training on senior students whose English listening achievement is unsatisfactory. In addition, the effects of awareness of strategy use and improvement in learners'confidence in their listening learning are also investigated. The questionnaire is about 22 listening strategies according to the SILL. Then use SPSS 11.0 to analysis the data. 46 senior students in my class participated in the research. And the result shows that 1. Teaching listening strategies is better than not doing that, which can arouse students′interest and make it a litter easier in their following studies. 2. Listening strategies training can enhance the subjects'awareness of strategy use in their listening comprehension. 3. Listening strategy training is effective and helpful to improve students′listening comprehension. It proves that listening strategies training is feasible for the ordinary senior students (EFL) in Chinese classroom context. Teachers should train the students listening strategies in their daily teaching. The contents of training can be: in the social/affective part, teachers should help the students′overcome the panic; in the meta-cognitive, teachers should adjust the students to learn how to plan their listening study; in the cognitive, teachers can help students to use some successful strategies to get information while listening. The significance of this study lies in the fact that listening comprehension can be improved via classroom instructions. Teachers can integrate in their teaching the training of various kinds of listening strategies and promote the transfer of strategies to new learning tasks, which can help the students become more autonomous learners. The goal of strategy training is to teach students explicitly how, when, and why strategies can be used to facilitate their efforts at learning and using a foreign language. By teaching students explicitly how to develop their own individualized strategy systems, strategy training is intended to help students explore ways that they can learn the target language actively, as well as to encourage students to self-evaluate and self-direct their learning. During the process of the research, the author finds that there are lots of various effects involved in the research , therefore, the specific training pattern should be modified to meet the needs of the individuals. Finally, it is suggested that teachers need not only to see the value of such instruction but also develop the skills for its implementation. Teachers should shift their roles from instructors to facilitators of learning in the process of listening strategy training, whose role is to keep the students informed and aware of all kinds of listening strategies and help them construct their own strategy network in the listening comprehension.
