Along with the knowledge economy time arrival, student's individual development becomes more and more inportant. The American college student affairs administration is to promote the student individual development and also to establish the intergrity system, which has formed the mature procedure, a lot of experiences can be learned from it. Therefore, the research of the American college student affairs administration of promoting their individual development is not only a new attempt, but also offers a new perspective to enhance the Chinese college students affairs administration. This essay is mainly concerned with the analysis of formation elements of the American college students affairs administration and explores the connotation and the essence systematically, based on the guiding file to promote the individual development and the prectice, and also the history of college students individual administration development.The essay contains four chapters, and consits three parts.Part one, the introduction to the issue, the significance of it, evidence of the research, ideas and approaches to the issue.Part two contains chapter two, three and four, which is the main content of the essay. Firstly, it makes a survey to the theory and hitorical changes of the American college student affairs management in promoting individual development, and points out the theory comes into being together with the appearance of students affairs daministration, influenced by four philosophy theories as rationalism, humnitarianism, pragmatism and existentialism; and four theories and values as personal development theory, consultation and personality theory, envirionment theory, organization and management theory; and also influenced by social economy and culture. Secondly, based on the history of American college students affairs administration and its present condition, The essay briefly analysises its cultivative goal, main content, management system and constitution, and selection of the staff. and finaly the essay points out the characters, possitive significance and limitation of the the American college students affairs.Part three containing chapter four, summarizes the the present condition of China's college students affairs administration in students personal development, and points out the limitation of the China's college students affairs management development. One is the wrong undetstanding on the individual and individual development, the other is that so-called strict , regulated pattern of administration would ruin the space for the individual development.The last point is the inefficence of service.It offers the new ways: 1, respectation of the differences of the individuals, attention to the individual development, and supply of a better envirioment. 2, plentiful campus culture and the role of campus culture. 3, dialectical relations between common demands and individual development, neither the ignorance of the individual development, nor the unneccessary correction.
