In the new curriculum reform, it turns out to be the core ideology of basic educational curricula to cultivate the scientific literacy of high school students. This paper studies the cultivating of the scientific literacy of high school students theoretically and practically at the right time of the new curriculum reform. The paper theoretically refers to the scientific literacy, the connotations of scientific of high school students, and the literacy on chemistry gained by them in the process of chemistry teaching. It colligates the situation of both domestic and foreign scientific literacy education, furthermore, it researches the ideology of the new curriculum reform by means of investigating the situation of the scientific literacy and analyzing those problems which exist. Based on what I have referred to above, the paper then studies the ideology of the new curriculum reform, and how to cultivate the scientific literacy in chemistry teaching. In the paper, I have introduced a few points of teaching tactics and methods and put them into practice in Grade One of in Suzhou High School-sip.Results:1. Before the new curricula were carried out, the conversations with the students in Grade One showed that the students had little interest in chemistry and considered it to be useless with so many things that needed to be memorized and had little to do with the practice. They thought that chemistry was so difficult that they studied it only for the entry examinations of middle school and high school, while they also prospected for the new curricula.2. The investigation of the questionnaire showed that there was still so a great problem in the development level of the scientific literacy of high school students that it badly needed improving. 3. After the 2-year new curriculum study, students showed more interest in learning chemistry and would often actively participate in exploring, co-operating with others and doing experiments by themselves in various class activities.4. On the part of the teaching in the testing-class, the points are to put great emphasis on setting up scenes, on guiding students'studies, and on developing the literacy of thinking .It is vital for us to provide various favorable conditions in order to involve students in the entire exploring process, the aim of which is to develop the scientific literacy by training them with scientific methods and cultivating them through the scientific thinking which could help to improve scientific literacy of students.
