Vocabulary is one of the three elements of a language. When we read, we can't move on fluently without a certain range of vocabulary. The famous linguist Wilkins has confirmed in Linguistics and Language Teaching that we can't admit the view that grammar is more important than vocabulary. In fact, we can transmit limited information without grammar. However, we can transmit nothing without vocabulary. In English teaching, if vocabulary is centered and emphasized, the problem of "time-consuming and poorly-efficient" English teaching will be solved because qualified acquisition of the vocabulary of students absolutely wipe off the biggest obstacle -vocabulary. This paper reports a research project which aims at probing into the teaching strategies of the multimedia assisted teaching ( self-made courseware) in senior English vocabulary teaching.First , the thesis states the reasons for choosing the topic, including the background, theoretical and practical significance etc. Second, a broad overview of vocabulary teaching and the multimedia assisted teaching ( self-made courseware) in foreign language teaching is offered , including the presentation of a brief introduction of vocabulary , such as the features, significance of vocabulary ,existing problems in language acquisition as well as the previous and present researches related to it. Then, the following is the research methods, consisting of research problems, research targets, research tools along with research procedures. Finally, Teaching Experiment Approach is applied as the main method to carry out the research. Two classes at the some level are chosen to assist in performing the experiment—one class's adapting the traditional teaching method and the other adapting the teacher's self-made courseware. Based on the various functions of CAI and the vocabulary in the textbooks Module 3, 4 and 5, the teaching strategies of the self-made courseware in vocabulary teaching are classified into six categories. Conclusively, based on the study of new curriculum and teaching material named Advance with English as well as the further study of the students, it is put forward that teaching vocabulary through self-made courseware can lead to efficient vocabulary acquisition. Meanwhile, the key to improving the vocabulary teaching efficiency in senior school depends on a combination of the traditional classroom teaching and the balanced use of self-made courseware. This thesis focuses on exploring a more efficient, more systematic, and more acceptable way of teaching method and teaching model.
