Composition evaluation is the key procedure for teaching composition. Composition evaluation is the systematic description of students'composition and it can find out the weakness and strengthen of the composition. It is the process of adjusting the development of teaching composition. The evaluation is neither the final evaluation of the final result, nor the last procedure of teaching composition, but the process of improving teachers'skills and students'study in order to help students grasp how to write. It is the enlargement and compensation of guiding composition. In the long time of teaching composition, the teachers have paid great effort to evaluate composition, but gain less. Therefore, the author tries to do research on first hand information by questionnaires and interviews. In order to give some advice on how to improve the evaluation of composition, this essay focuses on the following parts:First of all, making clear of the four basic problems about composition evaluation, they are the connotation of composition evaluation, the objects of evaluation (the subject, activity and text of composition), the function of evaluation (direction, motivation, feedback and regulation), and the method of evaluation.Secondly, analyzing the integrated situation, function, type, content, and method by using questionnaires and interviews, and then based on the results, the essay discusses the influence of raters and ratees'psychological factors on composition evaluation, the questionnaires and interviews on the basis of discussions come to the conclusion summed up:the raters (mainly teachers) don't know the ratees'psychological needs very much; the ratees'expectation on composition evaluation leads to psychological malpositon.Thirdly, according to the results of the second part, the essay gives some suggestions on the psychological adjustment and appraisable problems in the evaluation. After that, it suggests five methods to settle the problems: pluralism of evaluation subjects, pluralism of evaluation standards, multi-dimensions of evaluation content, openness of evaluation language, and diversification of evaluation methods, finally it gives an evaluation model for reference, called"a dynamic show of composition evaluation".
