Beginning from A Resolution on Educational System Reform promulgated by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in 1985, the employment of college students shifted from the state unified distribution system in the past planned economy to the self-option and two-way selection system in the present market economy, which has brought great challenge to people's values. Entering into university does not mean college students have come into the employment safe; they have to accept the choice of the market. In recent years, China's overall employment becomes tense and global economy has slowed its pace of development. Because of the impact of college expansion, college graduates in particular have endured great employment pressure, which has received increasing attention from the whole society. In the very tiny area of Hong Kong, the employment of college graduates is also facing a severe test. Employment counseling work, which was originated earlier in European and American countries, entered Hong Kong as early as the 1960s to 1970s. Hong Kong colleges and universities have gradually become the focus. Over the past decade, the Hong Kong university employment and guidance has undergone a transformation from the traditional model to a modern process, and gradually formed a relatively systematic theoretical models and valuable operational experience. Despite the differences between the cultural background and the work mechanism in our country and those in Hong Kong, many should be worthy of our reference. This paper will make a systematical comparison and analysis of the differences between the work done in Hong Kong colleges and universities and that done in the mainland colleges and universities in terms of employment guidance, which includes such five aspects as institutional settings, content of employment guidance, means and effectiveness of employment guidance, employment guidance staff and the theoretical research of employment guidance. Through the comparison and analysis, the conclusion of the study worth learning from has been provided for the employment guidance of China's colleges and universities. At the same time, by analyzing the advanced experience of the employment guide of Hong Kong universities, inspirations in five areas where the employment of mainland colleges and universities needs to further strengthen the intensity and expand the space have been put forward:First, to enhance the understanding and establish the work of the students'employment guidance center; Second, to establish a comprehensive employment information network for providing rich information resources of employment;Third, to strengthen the building of courses and enrich the entire process of employment guidance curriculum;Fourth, to enhance professional training and improve the teachers'construction of employment guidance;Five, to update the philosophy of employment guidance and encourage students to get employed independently.
