Teaching materials are important carriers for teaching activities, and to compile them is especially basic work in Chinese teaching. In recent years, with the implementation of the Chinese curriculum reform, the research on Chinese teaching materials has caught more and more attention in the academic circle. The research mainly focuses on the five series of Chinese textbooks widely used in the mainland and the textbooks in different historical periods, but the research on Hong Kong's Chinese textbooks is limited. With the same blood and cultural background, at the end of the 20th century, Hong Kong and the mainland both carried out the reform of Chinese curriculum. Thus, the study of Hong Kong's Chinese textbook provides much reference for compiling Chinese materials and promotes the development of Chinese education both in the mainland and in Hong Kong.Among current textbooks, proses occupy the largest part, which plays an important role in teaching knowledge and educating people. Therefore, this paper attempts to study high school textbook Chinese published by People's Education Publishing House (PEPH) and New Edition of High School Chinese (Second Edition) published by Hong Kong Educational Publishing Company (HEPC). By comparing the compiling basis and overall appearance between them, especially the compiling conditions, with the methods of literature search, comparative analysis and so on, it is concluded that the modern and contemporary proses of PEPH have rich styles and language diversity, but the content overlooks students' life and lacks interest. In contrast, those of HEPC emphasize on local culture, get close to the students' life and highlight humanistic care, but the content seems too simple and lacks good content and style in classical proses. In conclusion, both of them have their own characteristics and shortcomings and can provide reference for each other.
