Null curriculum means the course, which should had but have no in the school. Null content of textbook is the content that should be in textbook but not in. It is not a novel concept, but in the nearly 30 years when null curriculum has been introduced at the first time, there are seldom researches on this theory in China. In this paper, we want to get the results of the research on types, causes and consequences about null content of textbook through the method of text analysis about textbooks and course standards, find out the relative countermeasures to reduce the negative influence about knowledge absence to the student' s overall development of body and mind. The research of null curriculum and null content of textbook has important significance to the development of theory and teaching practices, and add a new color for the development of education science.This paper is composed of four sections. In the first section, the meaning of this research is briefly described. And the previous researches on null curriculum and null contents in the textbook in China and abroad are reviewed. In the second section, the connotation of the null curriculum and null contents in the textbook is defined. Then the core contents of null curriculum are discussed. Three aspects of the null curriculum are also involved. In addition, the null contents in the textbook are classified, and find the characteristics. The third section is started with the admittance of knowledge by the textbook. Then the analysis is focused on which steps will lead to the omission of the knowledge and what will cause the formation of null contents in the textbook. The causes of the formation of null contents in the text book are generalized to five types: influence from ideology, delay in compilation of textbook, subjective behavior of the compiler, deviation and loss in making the curriculum standards, deviation and loss in compiling the textbook. In the forth section, the effects and consequences of null contents are analyzed. Countermeasure to the null contents was proposed from the perspectives of compiler, teacher and students.
