The study does a detailed research on the null curriculum in the textbooks of Su jiaoEdition <Fun with English>2001Edition. It shows that the null content exists objectivelyand the existence is often based on the result of a certain purpose. The substance of the nullcontent in the textbooks is the reflection of the group power relationship. It shows in theseways: the squeeze from Society-standardism to Hamunism, the mouthpiece of theadvantage group and the silence of the social vulnerable group, the emphasis on individualaccommodation and the orientation of surpass avoidance. The research shows that there arethree aspects of the expressions of the null curriculum. First is that the null phenomenaappear between the curriculum implementation and the requirements and scopes which forthe areas of knowledge and social culture entering the curriculum. Second are thedivergences between the curriculum implementation scopes and the specified ranges ofdocument and curriculum. Third is the gap between the contents of the full curriculumwhich is needed for students’ fully development of mental and physical and the incompletecontents in the process of curriculum implementation. And the research deems thatpeople’s attitudes towards the legitimate knowledge (the null phenomena) are oftenacquiescent. In the study, I investigate and count the scenes, roles and gender differences appearingin the textbooks of Su jiao Edition <Fun with English>2001Edition. When I use thetheories of Sociology of Knowledge to analyse the textbooks, it shows that there aresignificant differences in three aspects: the erroneous tendency between city andcountryside, the different roles for different genders, and the different social groups. Thedifferences tell us that the knowledge conflicts of meaning and value not only widely existbetween different types of knowledge, but also exist between different subject positions.By statistical analysis, we can find it obvious that the imbalance between city andcountryside exists in the textbooks of Su jiao Edition <Fun with English>2001Edition. The contents of the textbooks show the favour of city life, and make it overridescountryside life. Overall, there are not obvious differences in the proportion between thedifferent genders appearing in the textbooks. However, the roles for male adults are morevaried. And the design of the roles for different genders is a kind of stereotype. And we canfind more by the analysis of different groups in the textbooks. There is a affinity in thetextbooks and they are suitable for students to use. The roles appear in the textbooks arevaried, but not plenty enough. The writers show respect for the children, but the textbooksare still written in adult perspective. So, I come to some conclusions and put forward a fewsuggestions for the improvements of the textbooks.
