Since Shanghai had been opened the port, different denominations of Christianity poured in one after another. Christine missionaries realized gradually during the process of preaching that preaching directly was impractical in Shanghai, then, they began cultural undertakings by publishing, educating, various kinds of charities to achieve the goal of preaching. The missionaries realized even more during the process of practicing, education is an essential means to open Chinese people's " heart door ", it was because the tradition of educate in Chinese society had rooted in the hearts of the people already for hundred of years, with invisible firm thought barrier of Confucian culture in addition, that missionaries could not hit and destroy it easily definitely, to promote the development of the cause of preaching by the means of education, obviously had a better social actual effect. A lot of missionaries paid special attention to woman's educating in the course of preaching, on the basis thought of Christianity at first that" the people all over the world are all siblings ", namely men and women are all equal, the woman's education should going on with the same step of that of man. As to this meaning, emphasized the woman education, established the woman school in China, its guide function is self-evident. Denominations of Christianity run five woman schools in Shanghai. Because there hadn't been the level of Secondary education in China's tradition, with it was the first woman's school educates in China in addition, they had gone through a course of development gradually, grew from the school education of primary degree to of university degree. This text draws up the study of Christine middle schools for girls in Shanghai; attempt to represent the characteristic of Shanghai Christine woman education.
