A Study Of Role Adaptation When The Only Children Become Parents

Based on 8 qualitative interviews in Beijing, this paper discusses the role adaptation of the Only Children when they become parents. Firstly, we analyse how the Only Children define"parents". Secondly,we analyse how they adjust themselves to the role of parents.Thirdly, we analyse what difficulty they have during this period and how they deal with it. In terms of the analysis above, we have three findings. The first finding is the Only Children's role cognition of"Parents"is consistent with the Social expectations for"Parents". The second finding is that the Only Children behave in accord with their role cognition. The third finding is that they adapt to the role of"parents", gradually.
