The history of cooperative learning (hereinafter short for CL) can be traced to 1970s. It was developing at a rapid speed among the time of 1970s to 1980s and has become a new teaching theory and strategy system full of innovation and efficiency. Until now, having tens of years of development and research history, CL is widely used in many countries and districts all over the world.At present, many teaching experiments about CL are, on a large extent, used in high schools and primary schools, as opposed to higher vocational colleges. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze CL problems in higher vocational education. Based on constructivism theory,group dynamic theory,development theory,choice theory,instructional technology theory, CL emphasizes multi-lateral interaction between students and teachers and teachers themselves. Normally, two to six students are formed in a small group, each of them participates actively in order to achieve a same study target. In this process, every student is supposed to fulfill his/her own part of task, and they help,communicate and cooperate with each other and thereby benefit from it. Besides, higher vocational students have special features, such as stable intelligence level,large memory capacity,high level of thinking development and so on. So, by utilizing CL, higher vocational students'cognitive development is sure to be promoted. And it is necessary and feasible to carry out this study method among higher vocational students. In addition, as sponsor and in spectator, the teacher is required to take the responsibility to cooperate,promote,assist and stimulate students in the process of CL and to formulate study content and style, to group students scientifically, to give timely guidance and stimulation and to make evaluation of the whole group. Therefore, to establish a feasible and scientific CL mechanism, we should make students fully realize the importance of using CL,take some effective measures,combine existing teaching resources,train teachers and establish effective evaluation mechanism.
