English Vocabulary Classroom Teaching Strategies In Senior High School

Vocabulary teaching plays an extremely important role in language learning, and lays a solid foundation for improving comprehensive English abilities. Mastering basic vocabulary can help cultivate the students' language communication abilities. English vocabulary is also the measurement for using the language appropriately in our daily life. The capability of acquiring vocabulary will definitely affect the four key skills, that is, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Only by grasping sufficient vocabularies, can you understand others' speeches and articles well and express your ideas freely. Thus, successful vocabulary learning is closely connected with successful language learning.In the 21^st century, foreign language teaching in both theory and practice has developed rapidly accordingly, and vocabulary teaching has witnessed a change. However, vocabulary teaching tends to be ignored in our Senior Middle School English Teaching. Even if teachers can realize its importance, the methods they adopt in class are dull, boring and lopsided. For many years, the traditional foreign language teaching has put emphasis upon the teacher-centered pattern and teachers just pay more attention to imparting knowledge itself with students accepting knowledge passively. The basic conception of constructivism is just as follows: it is learners that construct the meaning framework in the course of studying. It emphasizes meaningfulness of constructing knowledge actively and the learners should manage to achieve the new patterns based on their own experience, psychology and belief.Constructivism on learning theories is applied to regular teaching activities, which is carried on in the effective combination of the two. Based on the word teaching history and current conditions in the Senior Middle Schools, the thesis is making efforts to seek renovation, strategies and implementation in English vocabulary teaching in Senior High School in China. Just by means of the thorough analysis, the students' capabilities of mastering the English vocabulary can improve accordingly.
