Textbooks are the core of the English teaching. Textbooks determine the content and organization of teaching. Being aware of the learners'needs determines the quality of English teaching and the learners'future development. While admitting the fact that English teaching has greatly benefited from Senior English for China, we have to take some disadvantages into consideration so as to help improve both the quality of the newly published text books and English teaching in senior high school.This paper is based on theories on education, linguistic, analysis of learners'needs, and textbooks evaluation. By means of documents and questionnaire, this paper has an analysis of leaners'needs and has a close look at the Senior English for China to make an attempt to find out the problems in using the textbook. Such as part of the content of the textbook is too difficult or boring; Assessing, Goals and Tips sections of the textbood are not fully valued by the teachers and learners; a lack of practical instructions in Writing section; teachers focus on learners'target needs but fail to meet learners'other needs; the disagreement between the textbook and the college entrance exam. By analyzing the problems,some advice on how to make full use of the textbook is put forward. Such as: making a full use of the textbook; balancing the exam and learners'needs; improving the quality of the textbook.
