Language is the most important communicative tool of mankind, and English is an important tool in today's international communication. Therefore, cultivating our students the ability to use English in communication is a major goal of English teaching in middle school. Textbooks are the core of the English teaching. Textbooks determine the content and organization of teaching. While admitting the fact that English teaching has greatly benefited from Senior English for China , we have to take some disadvantages into consideration so as to help improve both the quality of the newly published text books and English teaching in senior high school.This paper is based on theories on education, linguistic, linguistic teaching and textbooks evaluation . By means of documents ,questionnaire, interview and attending classes this paper has a close look at the Senior English for China and make an attempt to give some advice on how to make full use of it.This paper is mainly divided into five chapters. Chapter one introduces a brief situation and importance of English teaching and looks back the history background where Senior English for China is developed . Chapter Two presents concept of textbooks and the basic theory of designing textbooks. Chapter Three discuss the qualities of the textbook. Chapter Four introduces the investigation and research of the use of the textbooks. Based on analysis and evaluation of some real cases, Chapter Five deals with problems using the textbooks and discusses the possible causes.It is hoped that this paper will bring some implications for the later researchers, and will be of some help to English teaching in high schools.
