The science and technology of America is the most advanced in the world. And it makes all aspects of the society develop very quickly. In the development of the science and technology,vocational education makes a very important role. In terms of the development of American vocational education, the history of American vocational education can be regarded as that of American vocational legislation. The establishment and enforcement of the related acts, which can meet the need of the development of economy in different periods is the important reason to the rapid development of American vocational education.The development of American vocational education comes through four phases. In colonial era and the whole 18th century, American vocational legislation was still in its infancy. From Morrill Act of 1862 to Smith-Hughes Act of 1917, the system of American vocational education was established. From Vocational Education Act of 1963 to Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1984, American vocational education developed very fast. Carl D. Perkins and Applied Vocational Technology Education Act of 1990 symbolized that American vocational education would appear new trend.The research mainly adopts the method of documental analysis, the comparative method of study and the method of investigation. This study tries to reveal the characteristic and influence of American vocational legislation through describing and analyzing it. So the clue to it is the legislation and reform of American vocational. Furthermore,some implications and suggestions are derived to Chinese vocational education development.
