Academic profession refers to the kind of job which is attached to background professional skill, prone to influences of updated knowledge, in fluctuation with the wax and wane of the labor market,and in conformation to the shared academic norms and ethics. The academic profession in colleges and universities is mostly found in the fields of teaching and scientific research. With the introduction of market competition system in these institutes, the academic profession has undergone great changes, bringing both opportunities and challenges to college faculty in their academic study.Increasingly, more and more women teachers have been enrolled in the education field and female teaching staff now constitutes a substantial proportion of all the teachers in colleges and universities. Then in what condition are they in the development of academic profession? In what situations are they in face of the increasingly more competitive academic circle? To what factors are they subject to in the development of academic profession? With a view to solving these problems, the author researches into five female young faculty. During 8 months, conducted 8 interviews on them and collected volumes of valuable information. Accordingly, the author attempts to describe and analyze the collected data in terms of colleges'appraisal of their teaching, the position held by women teachers in scientific researches, the career plateau phenomenon in their promotion and role conflict.Thereby it is found that women teachers are subject to influences of four major factors. First, female young faculty in colleges and universities are faced with a comparatively intense role conflicts. Second, female young faculty's inclination of focusing on teaching work goes against college's emphasis on scientific research work rather than teaching. Third, female young faculty are stuck in a untoward situation in scientific research and promotion. Fourth, there still exist some problems in the self-orientation and self-consciousness of female young faculty.The author carries out a discussion over the problems that may exist in the obtained conclusions and advances some suggestions and countermeasures over the issues of sex consciousness construction, increased master consciousness of female young faculty and college appraisal improvement. It's hoped that this paper will serve as good reference in female young faculty's academic profession development.
