Aiming At Academics:The Professional Pursuit Of University Faculty In China

The quality and competitveness of a country's higher education depend on the academic level of unniversity faculty.University faculty has become a top priority for the development of Chinese universities under the background of the construction of world-class universities and first-rate disciplines.How should university faculty pursue the mission of teaching,research,and social service given by the university and achieve its own effective development and career pursuit? In other words,it is an urgent and significant issue how the university faculty aim at academics.However,the group of college teachers and their working environment has changed a lot since academics are becoming increasingly popular.On the one hand,the boundaries of the academic profession are changing.On the other hand,the academic profession is also being strongly impacted by external social forces.As a result,it is annoying phenomenon that the academic misconduct happen repeatedly in the university.Therefore,it is necessary for college teachers to aim at academics,stick to academic beliefs and persist in the intrinsic value of academic careers.In fact,many studies have been researched on the development of university faculty.However,few studies have put university faculty under the framework of academic profession.This article will analyze the connotation and characteristics of academic profession and the historical track of the formation of academic profession missions under the framework of academic profession,which make it clear that academic is the fundamental of academic profession and the core of college teachers' career pursuit.The article then analyzes the existing situation and causes of the academic profession development of Chinese university faculty.At present,there are many problems in the development of academic profession,such as the lack of teacher professionalism,the loss of academic ethics,and the marketization of academic professions.The reasons are the lack of academic sacred tradition,the low degree of professionalism of college teachers and the premature marketization.Therefore,college teachers should work hard to achieve their academic pursuit in three aspects from self-development,university internal system construction to university exterior.The specificmeasures are as follows:Firstly,the college teachers should establish academic-based concepts,strengthen their professional awareness and stick to academic ethics.Secondly,universities should improve the professional system of academic profession,build academic ethics system and build an effective incentive system.Lastly,society should create a good academic atmosphere and respect the professional status and uniqueness of college teachers.
