In the new Course Standard for Senior High School, English classroom focuses on the development of student communicative competence , featuring in learner-centered . In this thesis, the writer tries to find an efficient classroom interaction mode-cooperative learning including pair work, which provides students the opportunities to develop a range of cognitive, social and linguistic skills while students interact with each other in classrooms.Five chapters are contained in this thesis. In Chapter One, The writer focuses on the analyses of the present situation in English teaching as well as the situation in the writer's school. It is necessary and urgent for English teachers to innovate their teaching ideas and to adopt the new classroom interaction mode-group work as well as pair work. So the writer puts forward the necessities to do research on the classroom interaction mode. In Chapter Two, the writer introduced some theoretical studies including pedagogical arguments psycholinguistic rationale psychological theories and social interaction theories . The use of cooperative learning in classrooms has long been supported by pedagogical arguments. In Chapter Three, the writer did research about cooperative learning of interaction mode and traditional classroom mode through experiments. The writer also discussed the teacher's roles, the students' roles and the activities designed in the classrooms. In Chapter Four, the writer analyzed the results of experiments and discussed the relationship between the teachers and students. In Chapter Five , the writer draw some conclusions and puts forward some suggestions about the techniques of cooperative learning.
