Group cooperative learning, as an effective teaching theory and strategic system, is now widely used in the class teaching. Group cooperative learning is helpful to improve the classroom atmosphere, create a new teacher-student relationship, reduce the students’English learning anxiety, and at the same time improve the students’academic achievements.This paper firstly introduces the background of cooperative learning and the value and significance of the research. Then it elaborates the definition of cooperative learning, the basic factors of cooperative learning, the characteristics of cooperative learning, cooperative learning types, introduces the theoretical basis of the cooperative learning, the course of development of cooperative learning both at home and abroad, cooperative learning techniques, research supporting cooperative learning. To prove the effect of cooperative learning, the author carried out the relevant teaching experiment. During the experiment, there are some problems, for example, group division is not scientific, students’ responsibility is not clear, lack of skill, lack of time; improper timing, not comprehensive evaluation. But the overall effect is good, and the cooperative learning indeed improves the students’ English learning. In order to solve these problems, the author put forward some feasible methods, for example, the establishment of cooperative group, clear division of roles, the teaching of learning method, the training of the practical ability, transformation of the organization form, introduction of the competition mechanism, cultivation of the students’ competition consciousness, improvement of the students’ interest in English learning, self-confidence and learning ability; enhancement of learner’s autonomy, strengthened communication, improved the relation between teachers and students,the relationship between students. The author hopes to maximize the positive effect of cooperative learning.The author also hopes that the research can attract more and more scholars and teachers to study collaborative learning task. so that the teaching idea in theory and in practice can be further improved and developed.
