Though controversy about teaching method has been in foreign language teaching in China, at the end of 2007 there are productive debates among academic authorities, TBLT (task-based language teaching) model is still encouraged to be applied in English teaching according to the Curriculum Standard for School English .TBLT is helpful to realize the goals of teaching, that is, developing students' comprehensive language skill, making the learning process as a process of cumulating positive emotional attitude, active thinking and bold practicing, as well as improving conscious of culture crossing and being able to learn by themselves.The purpose of this thesis is to explore how to implement TBLT in English reading class effectively by a contrastive experimental research.The paper is composed of six parts. The first part begins with a brief introduction on the background of the emergence of TBLT and its practical significance in English teaching, as well as the necessity and objectives of choosing this thesis. The second part clarifies the significant rationale of TBLT from the second language acquisition and the language teaching pedagogy by means of literature reviewing and summarization. It emphasizes on the task definition and structure of TBLT, as well as its characteristics, types and principles of designing. The third part explores the significance of the implementation of TBLT in English reading teaching, as well as the reading skills. At the same time, it gives a contrast between TBLT model and 3P model. The fourth part describes the design of the experiment, the procedure, and collects the data of the experiment. We have carried out an experimental research that was lasting one semester in two parallel classes. The fifth part sums up the outcome of the research about implementation of TBLT. It elicits feasibility of TBLT model in English reading class through quantity and quality analysis upon experimental data and the students' questionnaire. It shows that the TBLT could develop into a fully active learning pattern for learners who could be the center. In the end, it also summarizes the limitations of the study and offers the recommendations for the future research, so that it could deepen and be further expansive. We really wish to utilize the advantages of TBLT on English reading class and make it significant in practice.
