For foreign language teaching, it is extremely important to study learners' motivation and their efforts to participate in active learning. For students to learn a foreign language, motivation plays a vital role in the success of the study. If they do not understand students' motivation to learn, teachers would not be able to effectively arouse the enthusiasm of students for learning a foreign language. Only when teachers have insight into the psychology of the students, understand their internal and external demand, and strengthen the rational and efficient factors, can teachers better teach the knowledge and skills to achieve effective teaching results. An important aspect of what the new English curriculum standards is concerned about is the emotional attitude (interest, motivation, self-confidence, will and the spirit of cooperation and so on). The development of the students' emotional attitudes are subject to the infiltration of education. Students' interest in learning is expected to be converted into stable motivation to learn a foreign language. In the current teaching of English, however, the subjective role of students is mainly ignored. This paper studies what motivation is, what causes the lack of student motivation to learn English, the factors that influence the motivation, and how to train and motivate students to learn English. This paper is intended to be of a bit help for junior middle school English teachers in an attempt to understand and to stimulate the learners' motivation to study English.
