The number of the senior three students in Shanghai, who select physics as their 4th subject for the College Entrance Examination, has decreased by 50 percent over the last 5 years based on some concerning data officially, even less in ordinary senior high schools. As a physics teacher, I' ve investigated the actual conditions of the students who select physics, and found that up to two thirds of them are not really want to learn physics. Consequently, problems like the class disorder, bad learning habits, not good studying results, etc. have great effect on their further development. So it is of great importance for a physics teacher to get to research into the causes and types of the students, based on which to take effective measures to help them form confidence, stimulate them to further efforts, cultivate their good learning habits and so on.This essay focuses on the experiments of how to improve the students in Xinge high school, an ordinary school where the author works, concerning the relative theories.In this essay, the author makes her own questionary on the causes why the students in ordinary senior high school have difficulty in learning physics, referring to some others' studies and questionaries, investigates the senior one students and sorts them into three groups according to the statistics and the analysis. They are the type of lacking perseverance, the type of lacking learning methods and the type of lacking learning speed.Then, the author gets a clear idea of different characteristics of different students through the causes and daily teaching activities and some relative practical theories, according to which to give them some instructions both in learning and psychology. At last, I check the effectiveness and put forward some tragedies as follows:(1) For the students who lack perseverance, I give them some counsels psychologically and help them to create nice learning situations to improve their attitude towards study of physics and cultivate their interest. It is mainly based on the results of thechest of Kater 16PF(2) For the students who lack learning methods, I make every chance to offer them some effective learning methods to let them experience some sense of success in study so as to consolidate their interest in study of physics.(3) For the students who lack learning speed, I give them some confidence, and try as well to lower the learning difficulty. At the same time, give different students some different exercises.For most common students, I adopt the teaching method of learning plan and guiding study, which effectively helps to realize teaching differently in class to stimulate every student' s interest in physics so as to greatly improve the actual results of the teaching in class.This experiment begins with the senior one students in Xinge High School, in the process of comparing to the students in another normal class. We get some first-hand data about it. Then we reach the conclusion, by analyzing and summarizing the data, that the tragedies have effect on the students who are not so good at physics. The effectiveness is as follows:(1) The variation of the students' progress in the study of physicsAfter a whole term of the experiment, the examination results of the students in the experimental class are much better than those in the normal class, esp. the fifteen of the worst ones, ten of them have jumped into the middle standard and the other five have greatly shortened the gap. It shows that the experiment indeed has some effect on the students who have difficulty in studying physics.(2) The variation of the students' progress in attitude, habit and method in learningAfter a whole term of the experiment, the students in the experimental class have improved their study attitude to a great extend.I've found that the students have more confidence in physics. They're no long inferior. By talking with them purposely, I've learned that they began to try their best to finish what the teacher assigned to them and made some preparations, make some marks where they have difficulty while reading, even make some notes and some summary of what they learned. They began to devote much more time on the study, to be more active in class and to pay much more attention to their results of study at the end experimental period. They no longer try to escape in face of the difficulty, on the contrary, they could turn to the teacher or fellow students for help. They could have a good command of some basic knowledge and greatly improve their ability to deal with the physics problems with the tragedies of their study improved. All of these show that they get to improve their attitude of study physics, take some interest in physics and have much more perseverance for their study.I think that we can begin with both teaching and learning, both in and out of class to find some effective tragedies to improve those who have difficulty in learning on one hand. And on the other, we should pay attention both to the reform of teaching in class and to improving the effectiveness of the results by giving them some help out of class.This essay is based on the study of the students who have difficulty in learning physics, to find some effective tragedies. Since Xinge high school is an ordinary high school, some schools of the same kind can refer to this result of study. Concerning to my own limited level and some other involved factors in the experiment, there must be something to improve and to continue.
