In the field of foreign language teaching, it is usually believed that English is one of the most difficult subjects to teach. A lot of students are afraid of it, especially in English reading. Many teachers and students devote much of their efforts to improving it, especially in the countryside of China. However, their efforts are not repaid as they hope. This is the reason why I pick the theme and make up my mind to find a better way to improve students' English reading skill.There are five chapters in this paper. Chapter One focuses on the definition of English reading teaching and importance of English reading teaching. Chapter Two introduces some currently prevalent reading theories both at home and abroad. Chapter Three discusses why reading skill always straggles behind, especially in China's countryside. According to Schema Theory, Chapter Four aims at some reading skill practice, Finally it probes into the criteria of good English reading teaching lessons. Chapter Five is about the conclusion of the study and some suggestions the author gives.
