Underachievement in history course for Senior High SchooI(SHS)is a common and unavoidable problem in present practical education situation. To actually implement people-oriented educational principle and closely follow students' development process, the causes of and preventive measures against underachievement must be found out and finally help those underachievers. With thematic modules, history course for SHS are totally different from the one for junior middle school. Quite a part of the new students of SHS find history course hard and could find no way out and SHS' increasing enrollment in recent years adds to the number of underachievers. The author is trying to analyze this underachievement's nonintellectual reasons and optimize teaching methods based on nonintellectual reasons, hoping it can help the underachievers as a reference as well as a guide both in theory and practice for history course teaching. Basing on other researches, this paper adapts observation, investigation of individual case and questionnaire, etc.The paper falls into four parts. I . Definitions of the main concepts and an expoundation of the relationship between underachievement in history course for Senior High School and nonintellectual reasons. This part is the whole paper's theoretical basis and provides background information as well. II. This part focuses on the research methods and the questionnaire's contents & the result. III. An analysis of the manifestation of nonintellectual reasons for underachievement. IV. Optimize the solutions to nonintellectual reasons for underachievement in history course for SHS basing on the upper analysis .
