| The competition of intelligence and talents is the key to gaining the international competition advantage in the 21st century, and the increase of the comprehensive national strength depends on the continuous upgrading of the quality of our people and the ever-increasing high-tech personnel. "Gifted Education Programme" (GEP) in Singapore is a gifted education program for gifted children, which selects gifted students, and sets gifted education curriculums and activities for the GEP students. Its implementation will not only trained a wide range of gifted students serving the country, but also conducive to the full development of the students' potential and the student's personality. This article attempts to introduce the contents of the GEP in more detail, to further explore its characteristics of development, hoping that our country can learn from the gifted education in Singapore. This essay includes four parts.The first part mainly analyses the process of the GEP's implementation. According to introducing the state of gifted education in Europe, the United States and other developed countries and regions, it demonstrates the necessity of the implementation of the GEP. Combining with the specific conditions in Singapore, which explores why the GEP can be implemented in Singapore.The second part mainly introduces and evaluates the contents of the GEP, which is the focus of this article. Starting with the introduction of the GEP situation in both primary and post-primary phases, the article evaluates the contents of the GEP by introducing the selection of gifted students, curriculums and enrichment activities. At the same time, it also makes an instruction for GEP teaches' training.The third part is mainly summarizes the characteristics of the GEP. According to exploring the setting of the curriculums, reforming the setting of classes, and developing the contents of enrichment activities, the article summarizes the characteristics of the GEP, which includes rich and varied courses, emphasis on creative problem-solving ability, moral and emotional education and develops leadership ability and potential.The fourth part is mainly introduces the development of gifted students education in China and enlightenment from the GEP in Singapore. At last, the article suggests the development of the gifted education in China in four aspects: system of gifted education, policy, educational finance, moral and emotional education and teacher resource.GEP in Singapore is not completely perfect. The real purpose is to find out other's advantages and then correct our own disadvantages, and absorb other's advantages and fill the disadvantage gap. |
