Man has entered a high-speed information society with his vast speed knowledge revolution.Facing such a society,the Central Party called:Reform the model of intellectual-training from preparations for examinations education system to a all aspect quality education system.With the vast economic development,China is meeting more chances to do international business with English-speaking countries.If we want to get our position in the competitive international business affairs,and carry on an even broader opening policy,we will have to own a large number of intellectuals with revolutionary ideas,quick-response and a master at the English language.However,For a long time,under the pressure of the examination-oriented education,teachers of the Middle School laid so much stress on grammars and vocabularies that they neglected to train students to use the language in contexts. Consequently,students couldn't satisfy the requirements of the Knowledge Economy Age for lack of language skills,language knowledge,emotional attitudes,learning strategies and culture awareness.In light of this the traditional teaching models or ways cannot meet the requirements of modern times no longer.At present,China conducted a new round of curriculum reform in full swing. According to the new curriculum standards,great emphasis must be placed on how to turn the tendency(i.e.paying excessive attention to the vocabulary and grammatical knowledge and correspondingly neglecting to develop the students' communicative competence).Meanwhile,it is proposed in the new standards that the curriculum arrangement should be based on their interests,life experiences and the cognitive level,which views the "use language to do" as the teaching center.And acquire language during finishing the communicative task,at the same time,develop students' ability of using language finally.With the continuous development of China's curriculum reform,a series of new teaching methods have also emerged,particularly communicative approach.It,as a students-centered teaching method,attaches much importance to developing the students' innate ability to learn and thus use a language,aiming at the acquisition of the communicative competence for the students.The communicative approach is not a single or fixed pattern.The roles of communicative approach are "using languages to learn"and "learningto use languages" rather than "learning languages",let alone "learning knowledge about languages".The communicative approach aims at letting students attain communicative competence.In class,students are involved in communicative environment.They acquire English language and communicative competence by listening,speaking,reading and writing.The thesis includes five chapters.Chapter One is introduction.It includes researching reasons,researching significance,researching aims and researching methods.Chapter Two is literature review.It includes the meaning,research status,theory basis of communicative approach.Chapter Three is the necessary and feasibility of implementing the communicative approach in Middle School.Chapter Four is the empirical study.Through the comparative investigation into two parallel classes,data are collected and analyzed,and finally conclusion is made.The communicative approach has a positive on the students' achievement and the studying interest,cooperative sense and so on.Chapter Five is the discussion and thinking. According to the analysis of the empirical study results,address the countermeasures.
