To help students to establish the concept of space is one of middle school geography teaching main purposes, this question can be effectively solved by creating Mental Map. teaching map is an important tool of geography teaching. It occupies an important status in Geography Teaching. then how to effectively use teaching map?This research starts through studying teaching map using different methods, carries out series of teaching designs, contrastively analyzes that the teachers train the students how to use, read, fill, draw, and note the maps in the teaching; study the differences in students to build map in their mind. There are 415 people, 8 classes taking part in this research, contrastively analyze the degree of details, precisions, elements and difference of their Mental Map, after they draw a world map in their mind. Propose strategy of how to help students to use the school map in the geography teaching and to construct Mental Map.The passage details the comparatively analysis of the effect on the Mental Map construction of the operation way of four instruction maps, then on this basis propose the effective exertion of the instruction map method in the process of geography instruction:(1)Pay attention to train the ability of analyzing maps. Do more practice to enhance it during the class. Think much of the relationship between maps and words and make them harmonious. Take full advantage of geography textbooks, make the geography law, principle and character idiographic and clear, and then form the canonical letters. Seriously design and filter the exercises to enhance training. Foster the students'habit to analyzing maps.(2)Pay attention to train the ability of using maps. Frequently let students read and use maps during your teaching. Lookup geography information, analyze and settle the problems during maps.(3)Pay attention to train the ability of making maps notes. Do more practice about making maps notes and protracting maps. According to the long term practice, make the students be familiar with the map information and recur it.(4)Pay attention to train the ability of drawing. Purposefully coach the students to draw the correlative sketch and enhance the comprehension of the knowledge in maps. Let them deeply impress in the brain.
