The Exercise is an important part of the senior school mathematics textbook. If the students do enough exercises which are not very easy, they can understand and use apply these new mathematics knowledge, and they can also think about and solve problems by themselves better. So the exercise will directly affect the students'learning. With the promotion and popularization of the five editions of senior school mathematics textbooks, we can find some more problems after the publication of"the New National Curriculum of Senior School". The tethers that face the students directly don't come to an agreement with these editions. Which edition's exercises can reflect the idea of the new textbook? Which edition's exercises really change with the new textbook? Which edition's quantity and difficult is better? These problems are valuable to do some academic research and practical applications. And if we can evaluate the difficulty of exercises in an objective method, there will be a higher academic value. In this paper, we just do this comparative research in the quantities, types, source materials, examples as well as the consistency and level of the exercises between the two different editions of PEP (People's Education Press) and JEPH (Jiangsu Education Publishing House).Through the comparison of the exercises in these two editions, we can draw a conclusion. In the aspect of the quantity, PEP's edition has got 679 exercises, and JEPH's edition has a fewer number (593). In the aspect of the types, these exercises in both of two editions have the same characteristics: 1. Traditional topics are still dominant in the new textbook 2. The objective topic appears 3. The exercises with measuring are popular 4. Open-end and reading exercises are added. 5. The exercises which are accomplished by computers are also added into the textbook. In the aspect of the Source materials, they are the same, and there are both little connections between these exercise and students'daily lives. In the aspect of the difficulties, PEP's edition is a little easier. Consistency: there are little differences between the exercises and the examples, in the PEP's edition, but in the JEPH's edition, examples are easier than the exercises. In the aspect of the arrangement of knowledge and difficulty, PEP's edition is more obvious than JEPH's.This research can possibly provide certain reference to the senior middle school mathematics textbook's exercise design and the mathematics teachers'practical teaching.
