An Investigation Of NSEC Warming-up Section Teaching

Since 2003,NSEC was widely used in China. In this edition, a new section named warming-up was firstly added to NSEC. In this thesis, the author tried to figure out how NSEC teachers deal with materials in their teaching process. In order to carry out the research, the thesis first analyses and evaluates the design of Warming-up section. then the author conducted an investigation including questionnaire and classroom observations in several middle schools of JiNan city, aiming to answer the following questions:(1) What are the design objectives of Warming-up section?(2) What are teachers' and students' comments on the design of warming-up section?(3) What are the teaching methods in teaching Warming-up section?(4) What are the teaching achievements of warming-up section?(5) How teachers arouse students' experiences and stimulate students' interests of learning?(6) What are the defects or flaws in the teaching process of warming-up section?The whole thesis consists of six chapters. Chapter one is an introduction of theresearch background, and it also deals with the significance of the study, research methods and some relevant concepts used in the thesis. Chapter Two concerns the theoretical study, which is discussed from the relationships among syllabuses, approaches, language learning theories, preorganizer theory and materials design. Based on the material evaluation theory, Chapter Four analyses and evaluates the design of warming-up section, which attributes to the internal evaluation of teaching materials. In chapter 5, an investigation was conducted by means of questionnaire and classroom observations. This is the external evaluation of teaching materials. Chapter Six draws the conclusions and offers some initial suggestions to the teachers, the schools and the relevant education departments.
