The theory of teaching material analyzing and evaluating abroad as an important part that of curriculum evaluation, has formed its own standard and mode, and helped effectively develop the teaching material. For a long time, however, it was comparatively for the building of teaching-material and the mechanism of material evaluation in our country. Teaching material can't be selected freely and there are no objective standard and mode for material evaluation. After the 1990s, the building of teaching material achieved a lot, and it diversifies day by day, and there are more chances for primary and middle schools to choose their own teaching material. Meanwhile it is necessary and urgent for the teaching staff to form the objective and scientific standard and mode for material evaluation.PEP Chinese teaching material has been put into experiment in two provinces and one city since 1997. By the year of 2002, it took the place of the old one completely. Compared with the old, it changes a lot. What's the view on it? What's the standard to evaluate its quality and value. According to the need of the new curriculum reform, the thesis shows its two purposes-offering reference for basic schools to apply the material, and showing the improving opinion to one who revises it. According to the material function and the subject character, the author analyzes and evaluates the teaching material by using four dimensionalities and twelve standards, as the spirit of the reform, which also is based on the theory abroad, then do a serie of work, such as collecting information, making questionnaire, analyzing and evalating. First, text analysis. By reading and understanding its text, the thesis gives a general introduction to the new teaching material which includes the system, the digest, the design, the arrangement of exercises and the level of fabrcation.Second, questionnaire analysis. Collect information and statis about the quality by the questionnaires. It contains the opinion of teachers to the material, teaching method, students' favor of it, the way of using learning it. All the data are collected and analyzed by SPSS.Finally, synthesis evaluation and some suggestions. Based on the first two steps, the thesis carries out its synthesis evaluation.On view of the culture connotation, it contains the spirit of new outline the mainstream culture and plurality culture is unified together. It shows the character of times and the modern realization. It pays close attention to the interest of test choice and culture, as to the function of education. But it should encourage students to probe, create and practice. Concerned with its knowledge and skill, the new Teaching material pay most attention to the complete improvement of students' Chinese accomplishment, the basis knowledge structure. It set up a system of separated reading, writing and spoken language although it needs to be improved. It also leaves some room to make teachers and students active and creative, although it's not so suitable for all schools and the individuality of students in different levels.As far as the cognitive and developing rule, the new teaching material for Chinese pays much attention to calling up students' interest and their appetite to learn. It lists clearly all the ability requirements and training objects. It also shares some room with students to think over and study autonomously so as to train their self-learning abilities and develop the individuality. However, the presentation of the language knowledge can't stir up students' inner-motivation. Book 1 can't link with the teaching material in junior middle school, as the beginning level is too high. Concerned with its fabrication, the building level is so high, that it is attractive from its form, cover and edition, although errors need to be corrected.It suggests that the new teaching material for Chinese should strengthen its flexibility, opening, dynamic, and innovation.
