General education integrates educational ideal with curriculum practice. Until now, it has been already more than 100 years old and obtained many experiences in the American universities, and influenced the development of higher education in the world. General education curriculum, as the main way of general education, should get the people enough attention and study. American universities' general education curriculum has achieved the much mature stage through the unceasing reforms and developments. Therefore, this research explores and analyzes the universities' general education curriculum between China and America in order to provide enlightenments for our universities'.This article can be divided into five parts:First, it explains the reasons for doing the research and introduces the present domestic and foreign study situation, as well as the main thoughts and methods of study.Second, it explores the main conceptions and compares the similar notions.Third, it describes briefly and analyzes the history and modern of general education curriculums at universities in China and America.Fourth, it chooses the curriculums offerings of Harvard University, Peking University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Huazhong University of Science and Technology as examples to conduct comparison from micro dimensions. The part summarizes the differences and similarities of the general education curriculums between China and America.Fifth, it tends to put forward some valuable suggestions which could improve general education curriculum in our universities.
