Individual modernity has been defined as the typical pattern of more or less related motivational, evaluative, attitudinal and temperamental traits which is most frequently observed in people in modern society. University students are the most important force that will construct our country in the future. More importantly, they are at the key stage of individual socialization. Therefore, it will be greatly helpful for promoting modernization of socialism to make study on individual modernity of students and bring up relevant countermeasures.From the perspective of social psychology, we use "individual M scales" which was established by Taiwan scholar Kuo-Shu Yang and choose two universities' students in Southern areas of Jiangsu as examples to make research on actuality of students' individual modernity. The survey shows that individual modernity and traditionality are coexisting in student's personal system and the former is staying at the dominant position. The factors which could affect the development of students' individual modernity are the gender, if they are single child, grade at school, family's residence, fathers' educational level, if their grandparents possess farming origin.Individual modernity has no remarkable effect on university students' intentional demand of graduate education. The factors which could affect the intentional demand of graduate education demand are family's residence, department and grade.The study shows three points of management meaning:The universities should pay attention to cultivating students' modernization consciousness.It is very important of higher education to improve individual modernity. Modernization of education promotes the development of individual modernity.Nowadays, universities also should encourage students to get a further education, in order to ease the pressure of obtaining employment.
