Improving the quality and capacity of college students and strengthening their social adaptability are the timeless subject and the grand engineering of institutions of higher learning. With the deepening of China's education system and the establishment of socialist market economy, it appears particularly important to probe into the subject and construct the project. From the theoretical analysis and practical summary, the thesis intends to define the concept of quality education of higher education; to expound its significance, the main contents and the characteristics; to analyze its current status; to summarize its experiences and bring forward the reflection and countermeasures of quality education of higher education in new time.From the present situation of our country's education, it's has become an inevitable trend to break away from the plight of exam-oriented education and to construct the brand-new pattern for all-round education. The pattern of quality education contains many unsatisfactory aspects in actual operation, however. For instance the quality education of college students must be in consistent with the reality of society and the law of social development. Only to master the law of social development, to investigate the social trend and to integrate them into the quality education in colleges and universities, the ideal consequences of quality education can be achieved. Combined with the practical status of colleges and universities in our country, the paper advances the countermeasures of quality education creatively.The thesis is divided into four parts. The first part defines the connotation, characteristics and contents of quality and quality education respectively, as well as the significance of quality education in colleges and universities. From the point of theoretical basis and practical approach, the second part elaborates the inevitability of proposing quality education in colleges and universities, and introduces the content, the characteristic and the main task of quality education. The third part points out a series of problems and their causes in the process of developing quality education in higher education in our country through analyzing the status quo. The part also lists a number of reforms and innovations of quality education in developed countries, aiming at exploring new measures in developing the quality education of our country. Combined with the successful examples of quality education of higher education in developed countries as well as in our country, the fourth part brings forward the viewpoints and proposals of the author regarding the guiding principle, operating mechanisms and managing pattern of quality education in colleges and universities in our country.
