With the continuous development of the market economy and the awakening of people's consciousness of pursuing self-development, especially for success in career. Career orientation is one of the most important essentials to career success. That is the reason why the author explores the career orientation of youth.As a whole, this is a qualitative study. The main data is from deep interview with eight young people who have abundant occupational experience in Shanghai city or Shandong province. The methods of literature analysis and questionnaire survey are also applied to outline the background of these people. The main parts of the dissertation present three cases of youth in turn, including their career orientating process, styles, and related factors that determine their career direction.The dissertation composed of six chapters:Chapterâ… gives a brief definition of research problem and target. Based on literature analysis, it also presents an introduction of the research plan.In Chapterâ…¡, it briefly analyses the background in witch the young people growing. By data analysis of survey data, it also draws the outline of the condition and characteristics of youth career orientation.Chapterâ…¢, Chapter IV and Chapter V present three cases in detail, describing their career exploring process, analyzing related factors affecting career decision, generalizing the main mode and characteristics of their career orientation.Chapterâ…£is a conclusion of the whole research. It generalizes the characteristics and influential factors of youth career orientation. It gives some suggestions to help young people to orient better in their career.As a conclusion, the author suggests that career orientation is a long complicated process. It is constituted of key steps - self-awareness, exploring in different career directions at the points of life transition, taking actions, and choosing an ultimate direction based on deep reflection of experience of past. There are four typical patterns of career orientation - gradual and unconscious accumulation, growing up along a tangible ladder, maturation from dependently to independently and long wander in indecision. The nature of career orientation lies on one's maturity level, quality of career exploration, especially the motivation, independence and strategy of career exploration activities. It also can be accelerated or delayed by certain family member, teachers or counselor in schools or work organization.
