For the reform of basic education in geography, studying the theory and practice of geographical skills (GS) is of significance. Base on the theories of pedagogy, psychology and curriculum and instructing; taking the goals of geographical curriculum standards for middle school and teaching designs on Geography Website as main object of study, this thesis studies the structure of GS , the goal of the evolution of GS, and the teaching designs of GS. It includes three parts: the theoretical research on GS; the research of content system of GS in eighth grade of the People's Education Press ; the teaching designs of GS in eight grade.This thesis decomposed the GS systemically, including that analyzing the definition and categories of GS, elaborating the basic skills in teaching target and introducing the definition of GS at home and abroad, then identifying initially the connotation of GS and constructing the structure of GS. The geography knowledge and the GS and geography ability form an interconnecting, interacting and mutual transformation knowledge and ability system. The recognition on the relationship among the three objects generates to the understanding of the GS.The thesis clarifies the GS, by summering and analyzing the elements of the GS, into two categories--behavior skills and intelligent skills. It compiles statistics and analyzes systematically GS in the teaching materials by using statistics from category to category, from chapter to chapter, and defines teaching system of GS.Fostering the GS needs to consider the restrict of students learning ability, empirical knowledge and non-intelligent factors. The basic principles must be followed: the practical principles, the principle of focusing on the students, the principle of gradual, the principle of being creative, the model principle. Based on the analyses above, the thesis puts on the teaching design of GS and illustrates the characteristics of GS in grade eight by using the examples in teaching materials, that is ,the foster of GS in grade eight is mainly on comprehensively analyzing skills.
