With the globalization of social life and economy , China's communication with the world has been increased rapidly. Our society has already come into the postmodern period of in 1960s. Because the postern modern world needs the spirit of cooperation, so as post modern men, we must learn to cooperate with others. "Learning cooperation" has already become one of the basic qualities for the people in the 21st century. In order to bring up the constructors and inheritors for the future society, the educators must make some innovations on teaching and learning methods. As a newly-developed teaching and learning method, cooperative learning has shown many merits compared with other teaching and learning methods. Studying results have shown that students who have more opportunities to work collaboratively with others tend to learn faster and more efficiently, and they also tend to have greater retentions about the learning experience than those who are not. English curriculum standards explicitly point out that the tasks of English course are to stimulate and train the students' interest, to foster their self-confidence, and to develop their good study habits, effective learning strategies, self-learning ability and the spirit of cooperation in foundational stage of education. Thus in the period of school education, the students are encouraged to help and learn from each others, and gain a sense of honor and success for their lifelong learning experiences. Currently, as a kind of leading learning approach, cooperative learning has been widely applied in the student-centered teaching practice, and has already made some breakthroughs and complements to the traditional teaching approaches. With the rapid development of English teaching methods, although a great number of students have strong interests in learning English, yet it needs their hard work and perseverance if they want to study it well. But the fact is that pupils are always lack of strong will because of their ages and teachers can not pay more attention to every child because of the big number of students in class. Thus the students easily lose their interests in learning English and easily give up their tasks when they meet some difficulties. Gradually they have become the so-called backward students. In order to improve the backward students' interests in learning English, this study takes the students in Grade Six No. 5 Primary School, Erdos as the guinea pigs. Through the methods of questionnaire surveys and tests, this study intends to know whether the method of cooperative learning could improve the students' interests in learning English, especially the backward students'interests in learning English. Then this study will make an experimental plan for cooperative learning. The findings through the experimental analysis will be focused upon the following questions:1.Can it really improve the Backward Students' interest in learning English by cooperative learning?2.Can it really improve the Backward Students' marks in learning English by cooperative learning?Through nearly a half year's study, this study have successfully finished its task, and the above mentioned question has been well answered, which shows that cooperative learning is a practical and efficient learning approach in English teaching.
