Since the late 1990's, the sharp deterioration of the ecological environment in the western region has aroused Chinese government's great care and public attention. In order to pursue a durable development, a multiple-win development way which involves economic, social, and ecological benefits altogether, as a strategy protecting environment, getting rid of poverty, and improving regional economy, herdsman settlement is implemented gradually in many areas, especially in those fragile ecological environment, poorly developed ethnic minority areas with the government's support.At present, the studies on the herdsman settlement mainly focused on its concept, the significance, the way, the problems, and the measures from the perspective of macro theory. There are fewer studies explore the social adaptation of herdmen from micro aspect. In this thesis, the author describes the current situation of the herdsman settlement adaptation through field survey data, examines and analyzes if those herdsman can adapt to their new social life after their settlement as well as how they adapt their changed production style, life style, and interpersonal communication, etc. from the herdsman settlement area, together with the relationship between herdsmen and local residents, the relationship between herdsmen. The author attempts to provide some constructive suggestions to the herdsman settlement program implemented now in Tibetan areas, and explore some new ideas on the building of grasslands in pastoral areas. This thesis is divided into seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction which introduces the significance and the current study situation. and the study methods and study perspective. Chapter II illustrates the background of herdsman settlement. It introduces the case of the settlement place and their original residence place and the implementation of the project. The third, The fourth and the fifth chapters describe the social adaptation of the new settlement village of Sangke Herdsmen from the economic, living, and interpersonal relationship aspects specifically. Chapter VI draws some implications from the existing problems, reasons of herdsman settlement and the conclusion of this thesis. It summarizes the social adaptation of herdsman settlement .
