Life convenience is among the most important components for livable city evaluation. The convenience of public service and facilities for urban residents has great effect on city livability. This thesis research mainly analyses the spatial differentiation and patterns of urban life convenience in Beijing. The subjective data of Beijing life convenience are mainly derived from a field survey. The objective data are from Digital Beijing Database remote sensing data sources, and other related map and statistics data. Correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and factor analysis are performed using software package SPSS. With GIS software, the data and results of analysis are displayed for visual interpretation. Finally, based on both subjective and objective analyses, the author derived conclusion and made suggestion for the construction of livable Beijing.First chapter of the thesis explains research background and significance of this study. Reviews of domestic and foreign literature on the study of urban life convenience. This section also introduces the main concepts and discusses technical approach and research methods used by this study.The analyses of subjective data based on field survey is reported in Chapter Two. The questionnaires are coded and responses quantified following strictly defined procedure. The article analyses all people's satisfaction evaluation and space on life convenience concretely with GIS.Analyses based on objective data are reported in Chapter Three. Using data from sources such as Digital Beijing Project, and related map and statistics data, the study analyzes quantity and scale of public service and facilities on life convenience Beijing.Chapter Four reports on the integrated analyses of life convenience in Beijing using both subjective and objective data. Using cluster analysis and factor analysis analyses the principal index and sub-index.The final chapter summarizes the problems and puts forwards some constructive suggestions on livable Beijing development.
